Very nicely done. I wouldn't change anything here. Good job.

I love the use of lighting here. A strike of white in the background ruin it a little.

The extreme back lighting here makes for a risky shot. I'm glad you ran with it though and pressed the shutter button. ;-) The bird, although lacking all and any visual info on this side of the 'moon', is clearly and completely outlined. Depth of field (the superb background blur as much as the fine progression of neutral hue and gradation from left to right vs. the crisp detail along the narrow corridor of light perpendicular to the bird) contributes much to the enjoyment of the image. Contrast and sharpness, also, appear to be well measured for the purpose to create such precise point(s) of interest.

The composition, as well, strikes one as apt and well balanced, taken good advantage of tensions between the available shapes and weights (dark and light).

The title certainly fits what we see, although, in order to preserve its poetry without an adjunct, I would have opted for a shorter title without including the (book-) author's name.

PS: The evidence of carnage on the wood (to the left of the subject) adds an element of macabre humour to this spectacularly humble image. > 7

Nice use of light. Maybe slightly oversharpened. The composition is very pleasing. 8 -danny

Really nice profile. I like it how the background transcends from dark to light and how the foreground, aided by the bird, follows that.
The bird stands out nicely, especially because of the lighter edges.
The piece of wood, with the lighter part helps to lead the eye into the frame. Funny to see those dead beatles lying there with their paws up. :)

I do think that this pic is slightly oversharpened, the edge transitions are pretty harsh and the profile of the bird shows some pixelated step transitions. This has also led to some halos here and there.

Overall a good image. Good luck.

Very nice feeling to it. I like the lighting also. Nice coloured background. A wee bit noisy though. But this is the price to pay for taking a picture in such a low light I suppose. Good work! 9

The dof is perfect. The backlight created a nice outline for the little guy.

beatuiful, and a very gutsy photo to take, to expose for the highlights and leave the shadows alone is a risk, and turned out wonderfully.

Absolutely fantastic! If this doesn't win then... !!!

... then... I'll become rather suspicious about the criteria that counts!!!

the fact that part of the ground is lit up while the bird isn't at all is semi-distracting to me.. would've been nice to either see more detail on the bird or less detail on the ground. i still like it though - 7
