The line of the rail is very strong and leads the viewer right into the image. However, I feel there is something missing from the shot. Maybe it would have more impact if there was a person or animal walking along the rail away from the photographer. The image being slightly tilted to the left is a bit distracting as well.

Is this really about dust? I see it as being about the rail. The image is dominated by the sharp portion of rail in the foreground. The narrow DOF certainly does not isolate the dust from the rail. I see the narrow DOF as suggesting that although it may look like we are headed down a straight and narrow path, the future is actually pretty fuzzy and uncertain.
