my hand brushing a leopard that I had painted long ago. You can see it at //blackyak.com/randalls

slight crop to remove my right thumb. neat image. photo filter to cool off the warm indoor light. hue/sat to make it less saturated and the skin less pink. resize. USM at about 100/1/0

I fooled you. I'm right-handed!

Neat - I like the rich brown colors, and the shallow DOF is perfect here. Something about that little squiggle line rivets my eye and then leads it up to the brush and the rest of the image.

Great use of depth of field. The eye is drawn directly to the point where the brush meets the paper. The curvy lines and the quick decent into blur give a sense of motion. Very dynamic (for me anyway).

Must get hold of one of those Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II lenses, so I can do things like this. Nice capture.

That is some crazy depth of field! Looks like just the brush is in focus, curious how long it took you to setup that shot. I'd get frustrated after 5 minutes. I love the minimal use of color tones in this one: brown, white, and skin tones. Was there intentional motion blur? Just curious how you got the lines on the back of the page to move like that. I like the techinque nonetheless. Nice capture.

P.S. - Awesome final product (of your leopard).

Very nice shot Don. You rolled a combination of two challenges into one and covered both of them nicely. I really like the way the sleeve fades back.

Very nice, Don! And this would have been a great entry for SDOF as well. Quite like the simplicity, softness, and desaturatedness of this. Bordering on normal for a shot from you, though, which is just a wee bit scary.

pleasing dof (although I'd like a bit more crispness in the brush area) -- warm tones compliment the composition -- one of my favorites this challenge

i liek the idea behind the image, but perhaps if you had the hand more in focus it would create more unity with the paper, brush, and hand. good job.

A little too blurry for me, maybe if the whole paintbrush was more in focus

Vert artistic.. I think you did a nice job here. I like your concept & how it was executed. I think your lighting was perfect & the choice of clothing was great for this since it doesn't overpower the image. 8

I like the hand in this photo, it seems very delicate and peaceful. But, it seems a little blurry.

Great Idea! I love how the paint brush shows so much detail and the background is blurred.
