In order to have the shadow in the mist show up clearly, I had to slightly overexpose the corner of the church. It was a sacrafice which I think worked out pretty well.

Taken with the 300D and 28-105mm lens.
Lit with a big-ass floodlight and the moon.

Greetings from the Critique Club.

This scene had too much tonal range to be captured in its entirety by a camera, and I agree capturing the shadow was the right choice. The upward camera angle emphasizes that the shadow is in the sky as well as providing a dramatic view of the church tower. The part of the church in the foreground helps balance the composition, but the cross on top of it competes for the center of interest being in the foreground with strong diagonal lines leading to it. While this is normally to be avoided, I think it works here since it brings the viewer's gaze closer to the shadow, which is the major feature of this image but not so exciting in and of itself.

Overall I like this image. The church, with its varied textures, is interesting itself and the shadow adds both symbolic and visual interest.

I almost missed the shadow on the right there, how did you do that???? Very interesting! The light on the left is a bit harsh and the cropping makes the roofs look like they are leaning, a bit disorienting. A 5

Awkward angle. Nice lighting, nice brown tones. strangely, it looks like a shadow is projected on a cloud or sky in th eupper right corner of the frame. Are those the heavenly shadows? I like that.

dramatic composition - the light on the steeple is a bit bright,, and there is an odd shadow of the tower in the darkness. I like the look of the building against the black.
