The shadows fell very nicely in this shot along with the lines of the columns and the monument. I only wish there had been water in the reflecting pool. Oh well, I guess this will be a job for photoshop!

Greetings from the Critique Club:

This is a very nice shot overall; most of the issues concern the environment you captured, not your technique.

COMPOSITION: I like the composition you chose, with the balance of the monument and this guard. However, I'm not sure whether water in the reflecting pool would make the eye want to see more over to the right as well. But as taken I like this composition. Before fixing the water, you might also want to clone out that crane!

EXPOSURE AND SHARPNESS: The exposure looks good, and it's leveled well too (except maybe the top of the white wall where he's standing might be a bit overexposed.) Sharpness is good, though hard to judge in this small version.

AESTHETICS: This photo has pretty good aesthetics overall The reflecting pool and crane are the major issues; the pool could have been completely dry, or filled, but I don't like it as it is.

Hope this helps a little. It's hard to critically critique something that doesn't need much of a critique!

I really like this shot, though I feel it would be better without the thick border. 8

This is a wonderful concept on the challenge and the shot is very well done. The officer looking out on the monument. The cropping is well done but the border on this shot really hurts it, too heavyfor the overall shot. The lighting is also a bit off, so sharp in the front and so dull in the back, almost too hazy. I started this with a 6 but am ending with a 7

Wow, the reflecting pool is empty....I've never seen that before. I guess it's better then the shade of green that it was the one time I made it to DC...

I like this idea a lot! I suppose the Washington Monument is sacred, so that's okay. It would be nice if the guard were in a less casual pose so the sacred theme could be reinforced even more.

Nice mirroring of the guard and the monument .

Shame you didn't ask him to step forward into that 'space' and line things up more . A lower angle would have helped you hide all the clutter at the bottom of the monument too (cranes, buildings etc)

The shadow of the guard mimics the monument. Everything lines up so well, horizontals, verticals and diagonals. very well planned out. Wish the guard dint; have his hand i his pockets (wass it cold?) Perhaps you could boost the greens a bit? 9

Is that the same crane in the background that Trinch was complaining was over the whitehouse I wonder *laugh*

Great interpretation of the challenge.
