Photographer’s Notes
The name of Florence’s Duomo is S. Maria del Fiori and it is the signature landmark and tourist destination of the city. It is huge and hugely detailed. The facade faces west and is often lit by the setting sun. It is in a word beautiful. But it is also damn hard to photograph.
During the day, there are crowds of people in front, and the humid Tuscan weather is often hazy. There are lots of not-so-attractive buildings around and getting a clear line of site, which encompasses the whole of the facade is impossibly difficult during the day.
I wanted to try it at night, clear of unruly pedestrians, when the air was clearer, and the moonlight might cleanse the not-that-clean exterior. I am truly sorry you can’t see this as an 8x10 where all the detail of this beautiful cathedral can be easily appreciated.

Is it good to be lonely? I guess good = beautiful to you. It is extraordinary architecture. Great detail for a nightshot. B&W brings out the texture.

I'm not sure the title goes with the challenge title. Lovely in Moonlight might have fitted better.

Good shot, great building.
