I came up with the idea while rummaging through my kitchen utensils and appliances. It's probably too "abstract" but I like it.

Setup:

I used one desk lamp as the main light source positioned to the right and above the subjects. A nearby window added some additional light. The robot consists of two metal cake mixer rods fitted together with metal wire to form the body and a tea strainer was attached to form the head. It has a handle but I didn't want to chop it off so lets just call them antennas. :P Besides I think it helps to convey the direction it's head is facing.

The rest is pretty simple. I put a photo of Asimov in a frame and set it on top of a make shift end table, which is a dvd case inside of a soft lens pouch. For the background I used flexible poster board.

Post Processing:

- Raw converted with contrast boost
- Curves
- Tone mapping
- Noise ninja
- PS noise reduction for added smoothness
- Cloned out part of the tea strainer handle at the top and wire at the bottom.
- Applied some color corrections using color replacement tool.
- Desaturated photo which was nearly b/w to begin with and a little on the metal rods.
- Dodge and burn for added contrast.
- Resized for web output (bicubic sharpener).
- Assign color profile to sRGB (from Adobe RGB)
- Convert color profile to sRGB.
- Channel Mixer to convert to b/w.
- Curves for final color.
- Smart Sharpen.
- Added border.
- Save for web.

Well this snaps my streak of nine straight 6+ scores. I thought for sure this would have kept it going. Oh well.

More fun with kitchen stuff

wow, I thought you clipped that teaball thing onto a sculpture. If I'd realized you'd constructed the whole thing I'd've given you a 9 or a 10. well done.

Wow, this is SO good! Those rich brown tones, and the concept is so clever! I think for some reason, you got robbed! I missed this in the voting, but you would have had seven 10's had I gotten to it :(
