 Goolricks opened in Fredericksburg in 1869. William Barber Goolrick (1847-1909) attended the Virginia Military Institute around the age of 18, but before completing his freshman year he was drafted into the army of the Confederacy. After fighting in the Civil War, he returned to Fredericksburg, saved up some money, and founded Goolrick's Pharmacy. The soda fountain opened in 1912, which is the oldest continuously running fountain in the United States of America.

neat image-my husband's grandfather actually owned a pharmacy - soda fountain in Scituate, MA. nice that your city still has such history- thanks for sharing.

I love this photo! It makes me want to be there strolling around that charming town. I love the feel you are conveying about your town. Just from what I knew about it before, I had a feeling it was like that, but you have done such a good job of confirming it.

this is strange because I was looking at a pharmacy in old town Tacoma today thinking it would make a great pic!

That is a great story to go with a well captured image. The balance of ambient light and the neon sign is just right. I would like one of those shakes, but I would guess that hot chocolate is more popular right now up there.
