This is a lovely Winter pastorale, but it seems that the subject is more the overall landscape, with the trees dividing the snowfields into geometric shapes; I think the voters were looking for the trees to form the main subject themselves. |

Hi,
I think you suffered from the crowd that wanted a tree to be the major focal point of the photo, even though the photo is really nice, especially for minimum editing. Thats the feel I get when I look at it though.
Hope it helps,

The technicals: focus is good, sharpness is less than we are used to. exposure is good. Composition is somewhat uninspired (see below).
The feel: a) I don't get a lot of tree feel to this even though there are clearly trees in the picture. More importantly though, the composition doesn't give me a purpose or direction in what I'm looking at. It looks like a snapshot taken of the vista. (that is, little thought was put into where you took the shot from or what happened to be in the picture). Our eye is not given a flow or chief subject to follow or focus on. Instead we just bounce around a bit and then move on.
The game: People were probably looking very much for "tree as subject" in this challenge. |

I'm very surprised at the score on this one (I gave it a 6) - I thought it quite appropriate for the challenge and pretty well composed with no cropping. For DPC it may be just a touch soft - since sharpening was allowed, maybe one touch of sharpening? And by the way, you are eligible for the highly coveted, rarely awarded "No comments received during a challenge" ribbon! (Send me a PM if interested.) |

Anthony, I didn't vote in this challenge, but appreciate what you were going for here. You certainly captured trees in this shot and for that it met the challenge in my opinion. I am guessing it didn't score higher because the picture is so broad in content. The subject doesn't speak 'trees' - while they are everywhere in your shot, there are other subjects too. I will say this though, no matter how broad the shot, I don't believe this is a sub 5 shot. Thanks for sharing. |
