First of all, for some reason downsizing to 640px looks worse than to 800px wide. Maybe it is because I have gotten used to working in 800px wide for the web, but with some contrasty b&w stuff 640px wide really sucks for some reason.
This entry is far, far, far away from Cartier-Bresson. I can only dream of getting at his level, but that is what I would like to in the end. Maybe 10 years from now I'll be at 50%. :)
Ok, don't know what it is, but when I see two wheels I want to shoot it. Bicycles, motorcycles, whatever. So here is another panned shot of a twowheeler. This is most likely at the intersection of the Heerengracht with the Reguliersgracht (near the Rembrandtplein) in Amsterdam. Mother with child on their way to the Amsterdam Zoo?
I stood up at 5.30 on Saturday, took the 6.18 train to Amsterdam and walked the streets and the Zoo non-stop from 7.00 till 14.00... Amsterdam is great early in the morning, it is relatively desolate and quiet. We do these GTG's from 12.00 onwards, but the best time is 7.30 in the winter and 5.30 in the summer. Same goes for every city in the North.
Editing:
Two seperate layers of different b&w conversions. One concentrating on the skin tones and the other one preserving detail in the highlights. Manually blended the two. |
