The Iwo Jima Memorial honors fallen US Marines. It has a commanding view across the Potomac River to Washington, DC.

The clouds tonight had a very brown color to them. It started raining about 30 minutes after I took this.

I used a layer with the blending mode set to "soft light" to rescue detail in the hard shadows (to lighten, painted white) and darken some of the bright spots (painted those areas black).

Tonight was going to be fun because I got to meet JerseyGenie who was in town, and JimyThing joined us as well. The Iwo Jima was our first stop. Unfortunately, Jeanne fell and broke her leg! I went with her to the hospital until her son could get there (he lives in DC).

So here's my memento for Jeanne of her trip to DC - she's in the ambulance whose lights are just visible to the right of the statue:
.

Get well quickly, Jeanne!

I didn't vote on this, but find it really underrated. The movement in the flag makes the statue appear to be in motion - like the guys really are on Iwo Jima raising the flag. Very cool.

Jeffrey, you are the master of the monuments. I think this is well composed and the lighting is very nice. At first, I didn't like the slow shutter speed causing the flag movement but the more I think about it, I believe it was a good choice.

good subject, but this perspective doesn't give it justice. the letters are distracting

WONDERFUL!!!! I love that motion in the waving flag. As if to emphasize a pro-American sentiment!

If I were to guess, I'd say this is Jeff's. Previous comments still apply. (If this isn't Jeff's, PM me and I'll add comments.)
