Jeez! It was so hard to resize AND sharpen this! First I resized and then sharpened and the file was too big, then I tried sharpening then resizing and it was still too big. I messed with the size # of the actual resize on the web site, then sharpened or visa versa. Still no. I FINALLY got it to work when I only saved it as 95% quality. ugh, what a pain.
Overall I don't think this shot is very good. The actual tree isn't particularly special and there's a shadow. What I do like is the fact that then color appears very rich color considering that I couldn't edit it at all. Again, I'm making more of a point of the challenge's rules than the actual challenge subject...probably not a smart move, but oh well. I got the rich color by going in the color mode on my camera and putting the emphasis on green. I tried blue for the sky, but then the ground and the tree looked washed out.
I'm not very partial to landscapes, but at least it was a good learning experience. The composition was a little difficult because of the shape and the angle of the ground I was on as well as the horizon "cutting" the tree in half.
BTW, if anyone says there isn't more than 1 tree, they...are...WRONG. See the hills in the background? That's not grass, it's millions and millions of alllllll kinds of trees. So, ha!
:::After Challenge:::
yay! I'm happy with how high this scored, not quite a 6, but close enough. Hope you all liked it :) |

Nice simple composition. You placed the tree in a nice quadrant. I think the composition could use some balance on the bottom left (a rock, a cart, a person, etc), but really is a minor thing. The clouds in the sky give a nice dramatic background. A very nice picture with the different dimensions in the rolling fields. Glad it did so well for you! |

Nice shot. I think the strongest point in this image is the compositon. Everything is just layed out so perfectly. This also has very nice use of "rule of thirds" I like the 3 layers. |

to my eyes, the pic looks off balance, heavily weighted to the right. I think it's the darkness/heaviness of the tree. Nice greens of grass. 5 |

The vista is great but it wouldn't have been much without that tree. Lovely shape and well placed in the frame. You had good lighting conditions for this one. |

Love the vibrant green grass. It stands out more than the tree though |

Lush greenery conserved at the expense of the sky make this stand out for me. 8. |

A nice picture but the green of the grass is a little overpowering. |
