Along Pope's creek just off the Potomac in Westmoreland County Virginia. George Washington was born here in 1732.
The 538-acre (2.2-kmĀ²) facility replicates an 18th-century tobacco farm. There are cows, sheep, pigs and chickens. The grounds contain the graves of 32 members of the Washington family, including George Washington's father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

What an interesting place to visit. The picture is interesting as well, an unusual piece of machinery.

I love this! It has such a nice contrast between the gritty industrial look, and the nostalgic with the pretty blue tones in the background.

Nice view of an antique tool. I think you are right about the gourd containing water, as you can see how the rag would let it drool on the stone, and you can see the trails where the water ran down the frame on the left side. I wonder if this is where the infamous hatchet that did the cherry tree in was sharpened?

good question. Based on where it was, in the blacksmith shop, I believe it is for sharpening tools. The gourd probably contained water to keep the stone wet.
