Chester Yacht Club

This is beside the bandstand from Day 20. it was recently completely rebuilt - from the inside out, as three storey buildings are no longer allowed on the waterfront. they had to rebuild it as was, and couldn't alter the shape of it at all. so, it looks exactly the same, but is much more solid, and the interior is completely different.

for roz - the shooting details:
i shoot in raw, and i'm using the the new PS3 version of bridge, which doesn't automatically correct the exposure. there was no filter on the lens at all, and i used the 17mm end of my kit lens. processing was very simple - just a screen layer, masked, for the water and shadows. no sharpening or high pass layer. i've discovered resizing in steps - 500 px ata time, that seems to help the sharpness and detail of the image. i've recorded actions in photohop to do this, and it speeds it up greatly.

Thanks for the processing info! So just resize by 500 pixels at a time, then sharpen at the end, or just resize? Color is incredible!

I am happy that they have updated the yacht club. It must be very popular later in the year. Nice sharp image, and good light for it.

Wow - this is beautiful even on my funky dark monitor at work! I never thought about resizing in steps - thanks for the tip.

excellent rich deep beautiful tones in this photograph ... just love it ... sooooooooo sharp ....
just found thread where they're talking about starting a minimal editing project ... made me wonder if you edited this at all and if you didnt wot settings etc you had on your camera and wot time of day it was coz you've achieved such a fantastic look/colouring etc etc etc.. i cant tell from the shadows .. think i see a bit of a vignette there, or from wot i learned two days ago it could even be a polarizing filter!! .... altho i'm not sure whether you'd get the vignette on both sides .. i bought one two days ago and i'm still working it out ..
