Greetings from the Critique Club.
I have to tell you...when I first saw this shot I had it pegged (in my mind) for a ribbon...unfortunately you didn't get one.
I noticed you had mixed comments regarding the specular highlights around the pin. I think it helps emphasize the fact that you're actually PRESSING the pin into the balloon...I think it's an excellent touch.
I like the different colored balloons and I feel the yellow balloon was the right choice to have up front.
As far as the shallow DOF goes, I like it...it makes the pin/yellow balloon the focus of the image rather than something secondary.
Nice shot, I'm sorry it didn't finish higher!

Would've looked better without the fingers, and without any other balloons imho |

Love the colors and the simplicity of the idea, but I'd use a different (or no) frame |

Nice colours! I like it how you've showed other balloons, not just the one that's going to pop. They bright light around the pin on the baloon is good too, shows where the needle is sticking in. 9 |

I expect the next time I come to this photo the balloon will have popped. Good one. The anticipation just before the surprise. |

BOOM!!!! Been there, done that and dang if it doesn't make me jump every time! This is close to perfect, what would make it perfect to me you ask? The light not glaring on the balloon and the shadow being gone. Maybe coming at from a different angle or using another light to fill in and help defuse the one? A 9 |

Fun idea. I like the blurr of other baloons in the background. Wish the yellow one and the fingers were more in focus. |

Great thought and good picture. My only thought is that I don't like the circle of light by the pin. If you would have tried to do this in natural light on your tripod I think it would have looked better. All in all though a very good depiction of the challenge and I'm sure it was hard to get that pin in the balloon before it actually did break. LOL --another good photo --a picture of the person holding the pin when the balloon did break. |

Good Idea! I like the colors and your take on the challenge. Good DOF. Maybe just a bit more of the hand for a more balanced feel to the shot. 7 |
