I don't think this is a great shot. To start with, it was shot at the wrong ISO (was shooting snapshots inside earlier, didn't want the flash, and forgot to reset the ISO before shooting this). It's probably also the wrong exposure. Shot in RAW and JPG (this is from the JPG), and just resized and saved for web.

I chose it even though it's not a great starting point because I think it leaves lots of room for trying to clean up in editing (noise, composition/cropping, exposure, bright lights). Also, the wires in the shot are everywhere around me. They are the bane of many a potentially wonderful photo. I've never cloned them out successfully yet, so this processing job next week will give me a chance.

I love the silhouettes and the color of the sky. Can't wait to see what you do with this next!

The wires in this arent to obad. They are so fine that you should be able to clean them up pretty easily - great practice for sure. I am with Phil in that this is a strong sky shot in editing. Bring out your shadows and have fun with the sky. An almost square crop might work well for you trimming off a bit of the house and to just left of the last light post - and then clone out the post too ;) This shot does have potential.

This is quite dark, so hard to comment on, but you have a lot to work with in editing. Beautiful sky and trees, so it'll just depend on what's in the rest. Looking forward to the finished piece.

I actually didn't even notice the wires...they are so thin you can barely see them!

I really think think in the edit version you can bring most of the shadow out. The sky looks great as is but I'm sure you can edit it to make it look WOW. Can't wait to see the edit version.

The colors of the setting sun are beautiful; I agree with the other power-line lovers out there, it makes the picture feel more real, like your on a street. Cant wait to see what you can do with it!

rob... absolutely fantastic colours in this photograph .. and love the darkness and that yellow window in the middle left of the shot ... excellent sort of shadowy look on the road ......i dont mind the wires, but in a shot like this with those clouds you'd have a pretty easy time cloning them out if you wanted to .. its when you've got a clear sky with a gradient from dark to light that it becomes very difficult .. in fact i've tried and never succeeded!!! ... i'm sure ppl with more knowledge would be able to educate us on that ...

edit ..
had another look and the power lines in the trees might be a bit difficult ... i recently used the 'spot healing brush tool' to get rid of power lines but it might be a bit difficult with the branches ... you'd have to zoom right in and work on a very highly magnified area i'd say if you were cloning ...

Loving the colours, would like to see a little more detail in the shadow areas.

I agree with Melethia. Leave the power lines :) I am loving the colours too :) My first impression was of the grain but your comments explained that. The streetlights have a nice hue though.

Hey, this is not bad at all. It has atmosphere and interesting colors. I like the light spill on the street. It will be very interesting to see what an edit will turn this photo into. I'm with Melethia on the wires, by the way. Since they are everywhere, I try to make them work instead of cloning them out. This is an urban shot, so they wouldn't be out of place. IMO :o)

Maybe it's just me, but I tend to leave powerlines in my pictures. I mean, they're THERE. Besides, they're a royal pain in the patootie to clone out, especially with trees involved. Learn to embrace the power lines. Well, not physically, of course, because that could be a real shocker. But seriously, consider just leaving them there!

i think this will be a very interesting image when you're done, but, yeah, it needs work.

I think you have a lot to work with here. The lines and colors in sky are lovely. I don't envy you the cloning on those power lines, though - looks like a lot of effort!
