70 degrees today. 32 degrees tomorrow. Ah, Indiana...

I was puttin' the garden "to bed" today, and this little guy was still perservering. I was surprised to see anything still blooming under the leaves.

Anyway, I know this doesn't really say surprise to most people but I liked it. So there. :P

I'm very surprised this didn't do better! I loved it!

colors look just a bit dull, maybe you could have boosted them more if the background was a less bright color

Stunningly beautiful photograph. Beautiful muted colors stand out against the bright yellows and greens, and focus is tack-sharp. Congrats. 10

the desaturation of color on the hand brings the flower more to the center of my attention, good choice to leave the soil/dirt/ on the ground, draws my eyes from bottom right to top left....good job

Nice lighting and composition, but try as I might, I can't figure out how this is supposed to convey a feeling of surprise

A lovely photo, but I don't see how it meets this challenge - I'd vote an 8 on its own merits (the hands could be shaper ) I like the feel of the settting sun in the light...

Not quite sure I get the surprise element here, is this supposed to be a child bringing the flower in to surprise Mommy? Or the fact that there is still one last flower this late in the year? Either way the idea is good but the exacution is lacking. If it was for Mommy, I would have like to seen her face convey the surprise. If it was the late bloomer idea, the flower in snow or bitter weather conditions would have really pulled this off. The shot is also wanting, the lighting is a bit dull, it needs more contrast to make the shot pop. THe color is there for the flower but the hands seem very dull in comparision. A 4

Beautiful photo. Doesn;t say Surprise very much to me, but I still love it as a photo.
