Went out to shoot the rising moon last night, not knowing about this challenge until today. This is not the best shot because the darkness of the sky (shot at 1:20 am standard, 2:20 DST). Such shots are much better at full moon when the moon rises at sunset with the sky still painted a deep twilight blue.
Anyway, saw the challenge and decided to shoehorn yet another entry into a challenge where it doesn't really fit.
Shot RAW, processed into two exposures, one stop under, one stop over. Combined in photoshop to maximize the illumination of the city, while not blowing out the moon or the capitol dome. Various other adjustment layers (curves, levels, hue/sat) to tweak overall appearance. Standard USM and a slight oversharpen to enhance contrast.
I'm worried that this is going to look very dark on some monitors. Too bad about the meager 640 pix rule too.
Title from the James Taylor song, "You can close your eyes:"
Well the sun is surely sinking down
But the moon is slowly rising
So this old world must still be spinning round
And I still love you
(chorus)
So close your eyes
You can close your eyes, its all right
I dont know no love songs
And I cant sing the blues anymore
But I can sing this song
And you can sing this song
When Im gone
It wont be long before another day
We gonna have a good time
And no ones gonna take that time away
You can stay as long as you like

Beautiful picture. It does not make me think of time however. |

Woah - this is a real trip - and I see it has been validated. You must have done a very long exposure on this? Very interesting. Moon really does look like a wedge of cheese :-) Quite impressed with your technique here. |

Beautiful night shot. I've never seen the moon look so big relative to the earthly surroundings. |
