This was my granddaughters 1st birthday party. I put the 50 candle on the left over cake and had my friend sit in.

This one stopped me while I was voting, as I found it, in Don's words, oddly poignant. I think if you'd set up a tripod (if your friend's face were a tad sharper) this would have scored very highly.

Hey...50 isn't that bad. I lived through it. Nice idea for the challenge and I like the window lighting.

Oh, man, that's gonna' be me in a couple of years! Hope my celebration is less contemplative ;-)

While some may fault technicals on this, I think the poignancy makes this a tremendous shot. Maybe a little sad, but mostly contemplative as your title suggests. A tribute to what has been and what's to come. Very well done.

A couple points higher if subject more in focus. Indirect light from window is good though.

very sad and touching photo. I wish it was just a little bit more in focus, but on the other hand the unfocus:) gives such a great candid feeling. I like her expression too.

A photo-journalistic shot, especially for those of us who have been there.

Good idea to use B&W... wouldn't have been as poignant if in color or if the contrast was any higher.

Great job!
