I really cut this one close! I'm used to shooting entries at the last minute, but I didn't start making this one until 8pm on deadline day. Whew!
The monolights are composed of silver cocktail umbrellas, and mini Christmas lights wired to a 6v battery. The tripods are bamboo skewers I cut and hot-glued together, then painted silver, and the monolight bodies are Play Doh wrapped in electrical tape. Cute little lights, but I didn't leave myself enough time to work on a good scene with them. :-(
I had a modeling light overhead to help illuminate this setup. Processing was minimal since I was downloading files at 11:30pm... convert from RAW, USM, HSL, spot saturation, dodge the orange rinds and lens, and clone the faint edges on the electrical tape.
In retrospect, I should have started this earlier so I could devote more time to the composition and lighting. It would have been MUCH better with just the lights and a large red bow between them. The other elements just add clutter. :-( |

| Those studio lights seem like the real thing, although I could also assume there is some creative work with tiki umbrellas as well. Either way, I like it. |
