Okay, this submission is rubbish. It is. The picture is half-decent, but if it wins, I will cry.

Be thankful for your friends, the people that love you and for decent health. Be thankful that there are people out there that will listen, and that are worth listening to.

And forgive me for being shallow :P
Picture taken with a 28mm lens on my Canon EOS D60, with 31+21+13mm extension tubes. The image is not cropped (!), just resized and leveled.

Critique Club review:

Hi Haja,

At first I wasn't sure if the photo fit the challenge, but I'm also thankful for having the a camera and shooting shots of whatever makes me enjoy the fun. The shot fits the challenge.

The shot, in your opinion is rubbish. Well, I see positive aspects along with negative ones. So, lets look at some of the positives first. I liked the coloration and what you had in focus is excellent. The "C" is nice with the sharpness of the grain above it. The coloration, goldish, is real nice. Your cropping fits the subject well.

Now for the improvements. I think your downfall was the focus. I think it would have looked much better if you'd had the whole name in focus. The cripness of the "C" was really nice and the other letters in this sharpness would have increase the interest by quite a bit. I think this is really the only negative think on your photo.

As a whole, yes it wasn't real interesting or inspiring, but it gave you a chance to give your thanks, I did the same thing with mine. So we we met the challenge well, didn't we.

I hope this helps a bit.

Merry Christmas

Van

? There are so many natural and truly important things to be thankful for-- but it's your thanks.

I find the shallow depth of field doesn't work well for me here. There just doesn't seem to be much to the photo, and it doesn't work aesthetically because of the DOF and upper left glare, at least for me.

I liked it as soon as I saw the thumbnail - something different!

I'd prefer if there was a bit more depth of field so that the whole word was in focus - but it's a good macro anyhow :-)

Bad points: I love shallow DOF, but when text is the main subject I think a bit more would be nicer. Really don't ike the subject, although I agree with your point 100%
Good points: Quite like the positioning, remenisant of Gordon for some reason. The gold came out well so obviously know your exposure well.
Overall Score: Really stuck on what to give this. In some ways I find it dull, but the basicness (if there was such a word) is kind of attractive. And the idea is nice. Will start with a mid 6 and return later i think!

Fantastic idea for this category. A shame the DOF was a bit off. Great try anyway. A++

Good subject, I'm quite thankful for my Canon as well. Like the limited DOF. I probably would have cropped it differently, but I don't think the crop is way off.

I know where you're coming from! Nice depth of field. As the name fades into blur, I am filled with the sense that the word Canon means so much more than be communicated. Sounds too profound for a camera, LOL, but I can sure relate! 9

hey now, you're talking to an Olympus user here, LOL! Good idea but I would really have liked to see the whole shot in clarity, the DOF doesn't work for me on this shot. An 8
