 I only found out about this challenge on Friday night, so I had to make do with a snapshot from Thursday's Thanksgiving party (on-camera flash and quickie composition). My wife is showing the daughter of a friend her mandolin.

Not a fan of the angle, but the expression on the kid's face is natural and good. Light is a little bright around his ear and a little on the kid's shirt. It looks like a snapshot, which is why it probably will not score that highly, but the score only reflects the value of it in the contest, not on the value that it means to you and your family.

I'm a bit confused: this is your wife? Well, to the image: I love the emotive feel to this, and the natural expressions of doing normal but interesting things. The flash creates some very harsh highlights and shadows, though. You might experiment with just brightening up the room or shoot it outside in the shade where the light is bright and even.

bad points very normal image and subject. lacks and key focus point
Good points I am sure this holds sentiment for the photographer which is always nice.
Overall Score 1 sorry, but a very average image.

too much lighting on the face, seems a bit like a snapshot, plain angle...
