Meet my son, Spawn... oh and my hand.

We had an interesting time with this one... kid decided hessian was too itchy and that this was the reason why he kept breaking into impromtu rap impersonations. In hindsight a daggy old T-shirt would have done but I didnt know that until the 30 somethingth shot. And by that time I was enjoying his suffering too much :)... ermm I mean... I needed the suffering to show through in his facial expression, yes, that's what I meant. (just kidding, kid is a ham, just loves getting in front of the camera, even if it involves olive oil on his hair)

Anyway... this is my first.... so please go gentle on me.

WOW! I am delighted with this score! It was my first entry and I am a total Photography novice. My partner is on this site and since he has become utterly addicted I had to see what all the fuss was about. Luckily I had the benefit of his pitfalls to learn from before I entered my own. Plus I was lucky that he would still let me near his camera after me almost butchering it.

This shot wasnt manipulated much at all. A slight level adjustment and desaturation of yellow and red was all it took. Then a quick crop and hey presto, a shot I quickly became proud of.

Thanks for all your encouraging comments :)

Another photo, where I have to say wow. :-) The opposites work extremely well here, and the eyes of the boy match the rule of thirds certenly. Lighting gives this photo a dramatic feeling, it seems like richness means light, poor boy is in the dark. Maybe I would like to see the photo in full B&W style, but with or without colours, one of my favs during this challenge. :-) Good luck!
Ah, and tell your young model that he is is a great actor. :-)

Excellent picture... Running for the blue ribbon in my opinion. I like the lighting and the contrast you was able to achieve. Not only the rich-poor contrast, but also the light-shadow effect. Magnificent! 10.

Great expression! Nice lighting, but you could use a touch of fill on his left shoulder. The kid looks like the 'not', but the 'have' ain't got enough to make this shot. Also I don't comment often on borders, but the triple one here IS distracting.

Technical: Fits the challenge well. Exposure composition focus lighting all great, though I'd like to see more of the boys tattered shirt!

Personal: Very creative, nicely shot.

My vote: 8
