 Well this is Móði and his fiance Auður who were kind enough to model for me for this challenge on short notice, only called up Móði last friday, also many thanx to Smáralind for allowing us to shoot in their mall.

We could not shoot this though during opening hours, understandably, I mean who would want a viking with a battle axe around them, hehe. That means no people around though wich I think kindof hurt the shot but what are you going to do, I guess I am yet not quite famous enough to shoot this kind of stuff during opening hours but I´ll get there :)

I know their attire is maybe not what most people associate with vikings from the movies but all the stuff (besides the paper bags) is 100% authentic that vikings used back in the day. Of course the spear and axe are not sharpened but otherwise real.

Only lighting was the ambient lighting in the mall, the architect who made the mall really knew what he was doing as far as light goes.

Processing was making two files out of a single raw file and blending them together for a slightly greater dynamic range, then made a hue/sat layer where I sepia toned the image and then lowered opacity to give it that warm tone. Cloned out some distracting advertisements and sharpened and added the 2 pixel frame after resizing.

I'm surprised you/your models got past security with that stuff!

Scale armor always made sense to me -- it combines the best aspects of both mail and plate; besides, if scales were good enough for the dinosaurs ... : )
