Adjustments to color, level, noise.
Taken at a birthday party.

The feeling of motion is intended to portray their playing of Dutch Blitz, a very fast card game.

Another brown contender, I'm sure.

Greetings from the Critique Club.

Interesting out of the box image. From looking at your profile, it seems you're famous for those :)

During voting, I gave this image a 3. I'm not radically anti-blur, and in a way I salute what the photo is trying to do - you're not just taking photos of pretty things, you're trying to convey something using photography, thereby elevating it from simple visual representation to the level of art.

However, that said, in this case whilst I'd call it art, I'd classify it as bad art. I do like the idea behind the photo, but I don't think it was achieved particularly well. The photo does convey movement, but the purpose of the movement is undefined. With the chosen composition, the cards are barely visible, maybe making them more obvious would have helped. The facial expressions of the players also don't look terribly excited or focused. They're looking downwards, but they look a bit bored if anything, quite contrary to what you seem to be trying to achieve.

Ways of improving it: try altering the composition, try a different POV, and I also think the idea with the tripod (or table top) is a very good one - with the background being still but the participants moving, the point of the picture would be much more obvious. And take lots of photos, try and get some captures of people being angry or excited - the blur is sufficient to make the photo unconventional, but I think it takes more than that to make it good.

Anyway, that's just my opinion. Questions or comments - PM me.

I gave this a 7. I thought it was an exciting shot that fulfilled the challenge well. Good work.

this is a great idea - I may have to try it! The crazy card game of choice at our house is "hand and foot". I'd rather take photos, but the rest LOVE it!

I'm thinking a tripod will go a long way to helping with my shot, or maybe just setting the camera on the table. I want the hands moving and the person rocking a little, but the table and the cards not being touched and the background to be in focus - so the people are moving but some stuff isn't.

See what ideas you gave me?

I'm not saying YOU should do that - because you are developing a very unique style - you'll laugh when you hang your own show, or shoot for an ad agency with your style while the rest of DPC is still here giving each other 1s. :-)

I am obviously in tune with your ideas, as I gave you a 6 (which is above my average vote); I thought the sense of speed, motion, chaos was very well done, and I have enjoyed revisiting the photo. Keep true to your vision and sod the voters!

I̢۪m just not feeling that this is within the Contre-jour technique, just not what I think when I̢۪m looking for Contre-jour. The focus distracted me a bit.

Sorry, I really don't like this picture, not really contre-jour and the artistic effect that you were looking for does not appeal to me.
