Challenge: Free Study 2007-04 (Expert Editing*)
Camera: Canon EOS-350D Rebel XT
Lens: Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS
Location: Ausable Chasm, New York
Date: Apr 6, 2007
Aperture: 4.5
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/160 sec
Galleries: Architecture, Rural
Date Uploaded: Apr 8, 2007

HDR from single RAW file. Cloned out some large, blue pipes, power lines, and something behind the trees that was distracting. Flip horizontal.

This is a detail of Ausable Chasm, NY. There is actually so much waterfall action outside this shot that this building and it's waterfall don't really stand out that much. It's practically around the corner from my brother's house, the lucky bastage. I think this shot is poorly suited to the small & simple DPC-style display, but I made a 20 inch print of it at work and it's very nice, the kind of shot that's meant to be BIG, with a lot to see.

This was a sight to behold, and I couldn't resist entering it. My guess is that most people will think it's fake due to the Advanced Editing rules. If you're ever near Ausable Chasm, New York, it's definitely worth the price of admission to take a walk through, and gentle raft ride at the end. In fact, it's worth planning a day trip for it.

I hope you enjoy the shot, I think it's such a scenic area.

Damn, this is such a nice photo. I gave it a 10 and I consider it very underrated.

Amazing scene and composition - though I think that the HDR-style rendering actually detracts from the image.

what a very interesting image. the muted hues really make the water and building stand out. i'd love to see more of the falls, but this is a really great image.

What a place! What a beautiful picture of this place. The stark, almost monochromatic colour scheme in the trees/falls beautifully set off the brighter golden tones of the stones in the building. Very good composition. ~9

A stunning scene, spoilt for me by the editing.
It's all muddled together, with no clear subject or definition.
Also the composition is a mix match, as if you couldn't decide between the waterfall or the house, and so tried to get both in, therefore concentrating on neither.

I really think that the sharpening is too much but at the same time it works with this shot. 7
