DNMC, DNMC. Fine fine. :-) I just want you to stop for a second and think about my title. Thinking this is DNMC after that is up to you, and I also wouldn't blame anyone for not understanding what I'm trying to say with the title. However, I know some people are going to try to figure out what I mean and for that I am appreciative.

Okay, I think I seriously kicked butt with the processing. I'm quite proud of myself. Here's the original:

1) Crappy, crappy lighting.
2) Boring as drying paint.
3) Horible coloring.

And here's what I'm proud of myself for (corresponding to the above):
1) Seeing that the image had a chance to be something better.
2) Coming up with a neat idea for shadowing and desaturation effects that hopefully give the image a bit more "pop".
3) Choosing a paler, pinker color to have the yellow of the table blend better with the drapes and the flower.

Yay!!!
(I know that was a bit of bragging, but with the score I'm about to get, I think I'm allowed? LOL :-) )

-----
So after writing all that, I look at the current challenge thread about this challenge. People are worried that seascapes might be considered by some as DNMC. And I'm sort of sighing here because I know that, on this site, it's a valid question.

Well, I guess I'll explain it.

Being home-bound STINKS. I'm not home-bound but I do have some medical things that make it hard for me to go out sometimes, and my heart breaks for those who do not get to go outside at all. Something like this is the only landscape they would ever get to see, unless they have a great view out their window, but that really isn't enough.

I toyed with the idea of cloning out the paper on the table but I wanted it to be a bit more "real" (because this concept does hit home to me). Although I still might clone them out... not 100% sure I want to leave them in.

-----
Right now I feel much happier entering this, knowing I'll get bottom 10, but being pleased with my vision and results, than struggling to get a shot that won't measure up to the wonderful "traditional" landscapes that will be in this challenge, and being upset (I tend to be too hard on myself) for not doing well.

Post-Challenge WOW! Such amazing comments. I can't be more pleased. Among others: "Good lighting" (!! whoooo! SO happy), "darkly emotive" (awesome!), and Larus's comment which was honestly the happiest I've ever been with getting a vote of 1. THANK YOU ALL!!

I thought this was a valid take on the challenge, and there's a nice poignancy to it, speaking up for all those that can't take in beautiful vistas because of physical limitation.

The picture and the title together makes for a very interesting picture. Well done and I do like the editing.

Editing - my preference would have been to see the spot of color a little tighter around the flower, so as not to include the curtain on the door. I think it is a neat idea tho to use color this way! It really does make a difference between the two pics. I didn't vote in the challenge and I think the title would have thrown me off (because I am slow and not a deep thinker lol). But it is a very lovely picture!

A very thought provoking and poignant entry into this challenge - and I really do think you did way cool things with the editing, too. You have such a wonderful way of thinking - you see things that so many of us would normally miss then bring those things to our attention.

poignant. I know you enjoyed the purely conceptual nature of this shot, but I still think it would be cool to have an indoor shot whose composition recalled a landscape, the shapes and visual rhythms of a landscape shot. You almost achieved that with the table surface and the "rose edifice" upon it.

I gave it a 10, I got it instantly and loved the concept of the rose wanting to go outside back to it's landscape. Lighting is awesome, as is the select. desat. overall fantastic shot!

There is something very appealing about this image. I gave you a 5, as I admit it doesn't meet 'landscape' too well, but as a photo I'm quite taken with it. You did an excellent job with correcting the light.

I'm glad you did this, it made me remember that I take things for granted too much. I have a great view and I'm able to get out, and I need to remember those things and not take them for granted.

Kelly, this is a good example of a shot that's helped by its title. I normally prefer the point to come across without needing the title, but in this case, I would've give you credit for it had I voted on it.

Good processing, and I'm glad you got so much out of it! :)

Kelly, I guess this doesn't really meet the challenge but I absolutely love the selective desat. Nice.

You should be very proud of what you achieved with this image. You have given it a very emotive feel, I can feel the loneliness and the longing to be outside. Beautifully done and congratulations on having the courage to enter it knowing that most wouldn't "get it" in the context of the challenge but then it wouldn't have been quite so emotive in another challenge. Well done.

Very clever. Of course it got voted down low, but I don't think that getting a great score was the point. reading the comments some people got your idea.

Sorry but I do have a pretty open mind about whether shots meet the challenge and there is just no way I get your train of thought with this image on how it can possibly be classified a landscape. Top it off you opted to use selective desaturation wich I personally loathe unless done really tastefully. Voted a 1 and at least thought you deserved to know why.

Cute picture. You must be a sweet boy or girl. Creativity get extra points. I like how the coloring captures our attention but I think that cropping some stuff out would make it less cluttered. (things to the left of the door, waste basket under the table, electrical outlet, reflection in window, curtain string)

I like it (it tells an incomplete story) and want to give you a better score, but I guess you know it doesn't really meet the challenge. Good luck.

Should have gone for the hair challenge then...or taken it through a window... :) Nice set-up for the photo but sorry, DNMC!

Besides the title mentioning outside how does this tie into a landscape challenge.

I understand they don't let you outside, but it is a landscape challenge. Sorry
