Who knew? Apparently ALL scorpions glow like this under black light. Weird.

Lit by 2 black lights (which explains the crazy ISO). :o\

Shot at the Seattle Bug Zoo, with great help from the owner (Brian).

He spent a lot of time with us, and even shut his doors early to give us his full attention! Much more than we had expected! Really cool place - stop in and check it out if you're in the area :O)

Minimal editing (obviously):

PP:
resize
sharpen
sfw.

what a drag - could've done a lot to this!

Post Challenge:

Okay - my bad. All of that, and it didn't even cross my mind that this wasn't an insect!!!! Argh. :o\

Very awesome use of non-post-processing techniques to get something very visually stunning and unique!

Sorry, can't count a scorpion as an insect, but I do like how he has his claws spread out.

Interesting idea with the black light but it detracts from the scorpion, would love to seen the photo taken from the same angle and perspective without the black light.

I didn't mark you down for it, but that's not an insect. It's an arachnid...

I would have liked his characteristic tail to be in the shot - even if it was out of focus to keep the shallow DOF...that tail is what makes a scorpion isn't it?
