The colours are warm and realistic, and you got the subjects in DOF. Your lens and your camera work, that's a check. Is there anything else to say?

There is nothing interesting about the animals, they simply are lying in a rather senile manner. These are your prototypical lions, in a pose commonly seen in any zoo. The shot does not reveal any interesting details about the animals or their behaviour or environment.

Compositionally, both subjects are in the same plane, which is boring, the background is blurred, but does not leave a good impression (the bokeh is not pleasant (look at the twigs in the top left), and there is nothing extraordinary about the colours). The framing is not very tight, but neither does it leave any space. The right front paw of the left tiger is cut off quite indecisively. So, there is no interesting point of view, either.

So, the bottom line reaction: I wasted my time by looking at this picture. If I type "lions" in the Google Images search, I get much better images.

I did have a goofy smart ass comment ready but considering how touchy everyone has been lately I'll skip to the end where I say, Thanks for taking the time to comment even though I may not agree with some of it ;) I do appreciate your honesty.

Cheers,

-dave

"It's like talking to a brick wall" :)

Well, that was my first thought anyway. She's looking right at me with that smug, disdainful expression while hubby back there has tuned right out.

Beautiful natural colour and light though. I don't think the high ISO has unduly affected this, imo.

my reaction: relief that you didn't think of a joke! that could have ruined this for me. The cats are indeed quite personified, they seem old and dignified and jowly. Having one face parallel and another perpendicular creates energy in the photo. I would consider cropping off some of the left so that the line between the two faces is dead center, or crop it even more than that. Seems like some dead space on the left, and the rest of your composition is quite strong. You've got a strong diagonal from lower left to upper right and simply a nice cascade of shapes. The lioness looking directly at me involves me in the photo. She even seems to be expecting something from me, or at least curious as to what I'll do next. Both lions are just terrific characters. I expect them to be in the pages of a children's book.
