Photographer’s Notes
Believe it or not this is a single, real, photograph post processed using my normal workflow (color correction, sharpening, noise reductions) with a few added steps at the end.
It was taken at night, on the streets of Florence Italy, of a lamp in a shop window. The extra steps are these: 1) Polar coordinates; 2) Rotate 45 degrees; 3) Polar coordinates again; and 4) Select background and add a white to black radial gradient to it.
I like this a lot and my wife (for the record, not a member) likes it far better than my earlier entry, so this replaces the earlier effort.
I realize this may not appeal to DPC voters who have the view that post processing should “develop a photo”, rather than “make” a photo. And I realize many many voters do not appreciate abstract images, and this would certainly seem to be an abstract. To the voters in these two classes, I do not fault you if you voted this low. But I hope you have taken the time to look at it and set aside briefly your initial reactions to it.
I hope that it is a unique image, one that defies repetitive subjects and even genre. This is an expert editing challenge, and I have learned something about the tools we all have available to us. Maybe the experiment will please you as it did me. I hope the photo and the title may have made you think, smile, or maybe remember it however briefly.

Greetings from the Critique Club -
Gotta love that Polar Coordinates filter huh? It has served me well in previous challenges thats for sure.
You have an interesting image here. One that is actually hard to critique. While being taken from a photograph you have brought it beyond that with PS. I am not saying this as a bad thing, but what you have created here is more of an artistic peice rather than strictly photographic. And thus hard to say what you could have done better or differently to make it score higher. This image is what it is. You created what I believe you were lookng for. I can say that colors are nice and the gradient is nice as well. It is an interesting image and didnt do really horrible for one that would be percieved as pure digital art.
Good luck in future challenges. I do enjoy seeing your images.

A guy in my camera club frequently submits photos of agates and various other stones that look quite similar to this, although more colorful. I realize that's not what this is, just what it made me think of. I'm not sure this strikes me as entirely photographic but who knows. I think I'd like more of the yellow bits but without knowing what this is, maybe that's not possible. |
