Challenge: Rule of Thirds III (Basic Editing)
Camera: Nikon D50
Lens: Nikon AF Zoom-Nikkor 28-80mm f/3.3-5.6G
Location: Boonies
Date: Apr 19, 2007
Aperture: 4.8
ISO: 400
Shutter: 2
Galleries: Sky
Date Uploaded: Apr 22, 2007

This is my first submission with my new D50. I am really hoping for a 6+, but with the restriction of 640 pixels I do not think it achieves its intended effect and will be rated in the 5 zone.

Initial reaction - a conversation. That's what I see, is a conversation between these two old friends of the evening sky.

Technicals - very good job getting both the moon and star relatively crisp given that the moon moves WAY faster than most people think.

Meets challenge - Ah, here's the rub - seems many of the voters wanted Rule of Thirds to have a subject exactly at one of the four intersections of the grid. I suspect many used grids when voting, too. I of course see this as meeting rule of thirds by having three distinct "boxes" in the photograph, but I'm weird.

Are you happy with it? Did you achieve what you set out to do? Then it be good!

Really neat image - but it is centered along the horizon and the two objects are way outside of the thirds so it really does not follow the rule of thirds as I understand them.

I like it. The frame does it justice.

Very, very nice picture. Even being charitable, this doesn't meet rule of thirds.

Im not 100% certain how this was done in basic, Ill have to assume Venus or atleast a star was in view to the left of the moon.

Gorgeous in it's simplicity and one of the rare images where a bold border really works.
