omg omg .. talk about nearly getting a ribbon ...altho totally the wrong colour .. way to go michelle!!!!!! ... this photograph has really grown on me .. its sort'v magical & the stick helps that illusion of course .. love the postures of the children .. great imaginative approach and love your different processing .. NEVER A GOOD THING IN DPC!!!!!:):):):) ..lololololol .. actually the imaginative approach usually works in dpc, but the different processing definitely doesnt ..
"this is a photographic contest" .. wot tha ..
ummmm .. i think the challenge rules say advanced editing .. wot the person really means is that if he/she can pick the editing then they dont like it .. there's probably heaps more editing by other ppl in this challenge that isnt as obvious, but ppl dont go "this is a photographic contest" ... i reckon as soon as you sharpen you've left 'just' photography behind, and you've entered the realms of digital art .. wotever .. everyone's different i spose, i just dont like it when ppl vote you down for their ignorance .. xxx |

Michelle,
That this picture scored so low shows only the prejudice that a lot of voters have against digital art arther than anything to do with the quality of the image itself.
Like the image and what you have done with it and I hope you wont let the doomsayers but you off tinkering some more

I find it compelling, actually. I want to yell to the boys "run to the color before it fades out completely!" It's like the stick is the only thing anchoring them to the world of color, and once it gets too far away from them, they're stuck in a gray world. |

He's probably right, but there's nothing wrong with that. "Photoshop tinkering" is its own art form.
It's true that this picture doesn't quite come together, but I don't think it's all that far from doing so. You have the boys directing attention to the main object. Even though we can't see their faces it seems that they are rapt. This is good for a photo, because this sort of attention calls the viewer to attention. But the selective saturation is too much. It overpowers the rest. selective desat is a very powerful visual technique and therefore is almost always misused.
Perhaps without it, the stick gets lost. I can't know without seeing the original. Maybe a more subtle saturation? |

A non-photograph. A mediocre shot was used as a canvas for Photoshop tinkering, with the result of the type "look I found this new button in Photoshop". |

While I am not a selective coloring type of person it works well here do to the context of the scene as well as the title. I love the scene depicted. The tones are terrific, though I haven't decided if I like the filter. Curious what it would look like without the filter. A terrific shot for FreeStudy. |

Wow! Sorry it wasn't better received. For an expert editing challenge, I think it's very creative and artistic. I wouldn't have expected it to score in the 4's :(

This is an interesting effect and I remember looking at it long and hard during FS voting - and then not voting, as I couldn't make up my mind about it. I think what maybe detracts is that the magic stick doesn't look quite real, due to the painted effect. I'm also not sure about the light line bisecting the top area of the photo, as it maybe detracts from the inherent mystery of the two little boys on the path. However, I do find this captivating and it made me look several times. |

You'll probably get hammered for the treatment, but I like it AND the composition. |

Great use of tones in this shot. The possessing is not something I would normally like but it works well here. |

I am not a fan of excessive post-processing that tries to simulate a different artistic medium. This is a photography contest. Interesting use of photoshop filters, though, so kudos on that. |
