To me, and apparently a handful of other voters, this image was ribbonesque. The key to appreciate the poignancy of this photo, perhaps, is to be able to discern what it is not. |

Journalism par excellence!
I've given 6/271 entries in this challenge above average marks. This is my highest rated entry.
The dry objective manner (b and w, large depth of field, the unselective lighting etc.) of this poignant capture make both a stark social statement and a deeply moving photo. The (apparent) refusal of the photographer to embellish even parts or aspects of this image result in bared nerves, at least, on part of this viewer.
The essence and spirit of this -record- leave neither margin nor doubt: meaning is that which is.

This is a very nice image, and normally would score very high in my book, but it's not simple. There are very many elements included. There are very many layers included. There are very many textures. A very nice shot but not simple.
