CRITIQUE CLUB COMMENT

Being that most voters spend about a half a second on a photo before voting, first impressions can mean everything. Unfortunately my first impression when looking at this was "what is it exactly?" While it didn't take long to determine it was a champagn glass (about 1.5 seconds), some voters would have already moved on. How sad is that? The biggest thing that probably hurt you here is that the image seems out of focus. My eye is instantly drawn to the top of the champagne glass which happens to be the most distorted place in the photo. The light reflections on the glass also merely serve as a distraction because they are so overbearing in comparison to the bubbles. Since the challenge subject is bubbles you want the viewer seeing the bubbles crystal clear (razor sharp focus) and very little distracting them from the bubbles. A brighter background may have helped here too. Maybe a purple background with better lighting and a macro shot of the champagn glass with clear sharp bubbles. The border didn't really help you here. While I commend you on the color of your border which ties in nicely with the natural gold colors in the glass, the border is a bit thick on the left and right and narrower top to bottom. I spent some time while reviewing the photo to figure out if it was really "right" or not for the photo (another distraction you don't want). I can't fault you at all on your choice of subject matter for the challenge. A champagne glass full of "tiny bubbles" is a good choice for the challenge. Keep looking for subjects that clearly meet the challenge and improve the sharpness and lighting and you'll be scoring much higher.

This is an interesting an creative image. It seems rather blurry though and I don't think that helps it. I like the lighting and think this image has a lot of promise.

Seems out of focus, and makes it hard to see the bubbles.

Nice color, and use of the border. Bubbles are out of focus and more like white spots than bubbles.
