So I've been trying to get up the nerve to shoot more people in public. I see stuff going on all the time here in San Francisco, and think, "that would be a great picture", or "that's a classic San Francisco image". I was recently chatting with Padwrix, b/c I really respect how he captures life in New York, and he gave me some good pointers.
So off I went to Golden Gate Park, to a specifc part that we and many call Hippy Hill, with the hopes of practicing on my nerve and candids. Hippie Hill ALWAYS has a drum circle going, especially on weekends, so I thought it would be a good spot to catch some good images. After hanging out for about an hour, I finally got up the nerve to go over to the circle for some close up shots. This was my best image of the day I think. I felt like I caught the emotion of his face and how much he was into the music. I hope some other people enjoy it as well. As I finished up the processing, I thought about another photographer from the site, Goodman, and how much I thought that it reminding me of her images. I can only hope that people enjoy this image half as much as that great photography.
The day didn't go without the type of incident that makes me so hesistant to shoot people in public. As I was finishing up, one of the guys didn't approve and started shaking his head at me and mouthed for me to fuck off as he was playing his drum...that was my queue...hahaha! I knodded at the guy and raised my hands to apologize, which was about all I could do at the time. I actually got a few good images of that guy as well, so I'll probably go back up there next weekend and give him one printed out or something. Well, sorry for the long story. I hope some people enjoy the image.
Oh, yeah and the title. Mississippi Saxophone is a nickname for a harmonica.
A special shout out again to Pawdrix for the pep talk...big up!

It looks more like a harmonica. Still a nice picture. |
