My son playing funk on his bass. Yes, I realize it's not plugged in, it just doesn't look as good with the cord dangling from it.

I shot this in our backyard since I couldn't drum up anything resembling a stage or a club. Shooting under a gray sky (it was actually raining lightly) took care of most of the lighting. I just added an on-camera EX580 fill-in flash with a diffuser for the wide-angle shots. The shoot was quick, a few wide-angle shots for the background and then a few closeups of each hand with an 85mm.

Postprocessing was more work than I expected, getting the color, scale, and contrast to match between the three. None of the shots including his face were good enough, so I ended up focusing just on the hands.

I love the angle that you used. Very unique and dramatic. I do not feel that anything is missing at all because there is no head (which is unusual, and congrats on that).

Lighting is pretty nice however I think a bluer sky would have been nicer. This can be done in post processing in advanced. Also the trees are sort of distracting to me.

I feel that the main thing that hurt this was the large amount of background/frame. Making the two smaller pictures somewhat larger, perhaps at the bottom or top of the larger picture, would have allowed us to view the subject better. The large amount of background space being gray also helps to underscore the gray of the sky, so maybe a nice red to match the instrument would have been better.

Overall, nice image and great clarity of subject, just maybe could be more "wow" given some improvements.

Nice pictures. The two smaller ones are a bit similar, tho. Maybe a macro detail shot could have been swapped out for one of them?

Fingers are blurred on the top picture, but it does give a sense of motion. And I guess they aren't even really blurred. It's just that you can see them moving. Definitely not a bad thing in my book, but I know plenty who would take that into account. Great picture.

Lovely photos, not thrilled with the composition. The centre photo is so strong, the grey space above and teeny photos up and down tend to detract from how good just that image is in my opinion.

Great dof on the main image, the blurring of the fingers on the top frame should be distracting but somehow isnt, It would have been nice if you could have captured some of the tree branches in the bottom image to maintain the symmetry of the three images.
