a little unexciting in the colors, seems OOF; dark left corner keeps pulling my eye there but there's nothing to see

If you would have waited about 3 minutes longer you'd have a nice sunset glow and lighting. With the use of HDR available you could have even brought back some foreground if desired (after waiting 3 minutes for the sun to set the foreground would be darker yet). As is, the sun is a bit too blown out for me. I'm also not seeing a strong subject theme. The river forms a nice leading line, but it takes you to the center of the frame. The brush and distant shoreline to the left aren't adding as much to this composition as the nice golden glow on the water to the right does. I'd emphasize the right side more via repositioning yourself at the time of image capture or in cropping while post-processing. Try to get the horizon more off-center as well.

All JMO of course. :D Good luck in the challenge.

This is a very pretty scene... the composition is nice; my eye is led from the lefthand frame into the picture and out the back.

Technicals have some problems, though; at least in post... the sun is so bright, and the plants so dark, that it's hard to really see the whole scene without effort. I'd have tried (and I sure no expert) a little fill flash on the forground plants, and curves to brighten the sky and water and bring out the sunset colors that are one of the major assets of this image.
