This is an icon of the bad ol' halcyon days of drag racing......proof that there is absolutely *NO* substitute whatsoever for cubic inches.

This is a truly beautiful piece of automotive history and nostalgia and a darn fine competitor as well.

That takes *real* horsepower to twist a car up like that and get the front end off the ground.....this beauty's a crowdpleaser every time it runs!

A very good "Americana" type shot. I think would have been a wonderful fit for the "Cultural Events" challenge. It doesn't have of the wow factor needed for the typical FreeStudy challenge. A nice capture of hobbyist passion.

Jeb I didn't get a chance to vote in this one but I do like the car we had one of these when we first got married. I'm like everyone else maybe a naked babe drapped over the hood would of got the score up :)

yes the naked women would have raised your score, but the officals would have had a cow

Maybe if the young woman were naked - this could have gone into the nude gallery? Yes, I'm warped-just ignore me.

Jeb i didnt have time to vote on free study this time so i didnt vote on it. But i like the shot. I can see what some have commented that if you could have got more of a side profile shot and removed the guy it might have done better. But when you are shooting at events like this its not like shooting a model or a tree, You just have to take what you can get from where you are and i think the voters are so used to voteing on setup shots that we often forget it when looking at shot like this.

I am planning on going to Topeka to the dragraces in june an i will be happy if i get anything close to this.

The thing that gets my attention isn't the car, it's the guy to the right of the car. He seems utterly uninterested in the spectacle. The guy behind the car almost looks like he's trying to undo a wedgie. :-) Given expert editing, maybe you could have deleted all the elements except the car, the red car behind, and the flags. Then it would have been more DPC'ish. And add the young lady to the hood of course.

I did not vote in the free study and I know absolutely nothing about cars. It did get an average vote of 6.5 from commenters who were interested in the subject. Perhaps if you had more of the car and less of the surroundings in the photo and severely grunged it up it would have been noticed a bit more. Particularly if you had a beautiful young woman on the hood.

Nice crisp shot - it's likely a lot of viewers just didn't find anything interesting in the subject matter, which contributed to your middle-of-the-road scores. I wonder how it would look if you took the shot at a slightly different angle, positioned from more to the left, so you can see more of the side of the car as well as the front - don't know if it would be better/worse/same, just wondering. :)

Sweet wheels! Now where's that Ford Falcon to dust this Chevy aside? :D

Good timing on this photo. Good luck in the challenge.

"Up in Smoke" immediately came to mind for some reason. Maybe the dude on the right and the lifters on the car. LOL
