here is what this shot needs. focus: the focus is slightly on the back petals with the foreground blurred, in A mode open up your f/stop to get the rest of the flower in focus. border: distracting and should be white (if any). detail/sharpness: nothing in the photo is really sharp and detailed, have a look at the yellow ribbon winner for Triptych (front page of dpc), thats how a flower shot should look.. good luck :) |

A bit underexposed, it's a very difficult subject to focus properly, and while i think you managed that bit the stems coming out of the centre block where you've focused, making it look like you mis-focused.
Ok i'm pretty sure not of that made any sense.
Sorry, i know what i mean, just my keyboard doesn't. |

Lovely colours, but the flower needs to be sharper, especially at the centre. |

needs to be brighter - the whites aren't all the way white
Don't be shy about boosting that saturation - it is a free study and you're competing against very processed images
Burning the flower darks nice and lightly and then a quick over with the dodge of the midtones and highlights would add some contrast to the yellow section too.
then maybe a quick run through a noise reduction software and you're there!
It's a nice shot, it just needs some love to stand out in this crowd. Hope that's helpful. |

Great shot. Maybe just a bit brighter. |

Well...first off I don't really like the border, it might have better just to either skip the border all together or make it white or black instead. Also, parts of the flower seem slightly out of focus. A deeper depth of field would help everything get in focus, giving you a better picture. But good try though - keep shooting! |
