What is the deal with these faces?

After all these comments I feel I need to explain this photo. The quality of this shot is somewhat poor because of a very hefty crop from the original which I am posting in my comment. I know its weird, somewhat disturbing, tacky, whatever....But I like that sort of thing. :)

edit- I did some contrast adjustment and some more work around her hair etc. I added some noise to the wall behind her also. Hope it helped!

I like the funny faces. This one is a little odder than most, but that's it's appeal. I can understand why you like them.

Great editing - the shading & contrast in particular. Cool image!

This image is hilarious, so unexpected to have a pretty girl dressed to the nines making a goofy face! I love your processing as well, works great :-)

LOL! I think part of what makes this such a funny image (besides that face!) is the different post-processing, and the fact that she's wearing a formal dress and make-up, instead of silly clothes as one might think. Don't you love it when you pick up your camera and end up with something totally quirky?

kinda like this...:)

The processing is very cool! It's artsy and very you (which is a compliment). The expression. . .umm. ..well. . .you will always have good blackmail bait if you ever need her to do something for you :)

I also think this could be improved with a little more clean-up work and some contrast work as well... although to be honest, the whole composition is really something I'd just re-try.

The face is hilarious, but perhaps if it was done more towards the camera, so that she's got a connection with us, it would work better.

LOL! My 15 year old niece makes the same expression with her mouth! Interesting way you have processed this, she seems to blend into the background.

Like the processing you used here. Quite a bit actually. Have to be honest - I hate the expression on her face. It's just not working for me on any level - scary, humorous, weird - just looks like a pretty girl who ruined your shot lol. But whatever, obviously it's an out-there shot and that isn't going to resonate with all viewers. Goofy friend aside, nice work.

I think with some advanced editing this shot could really scare, I mean, sparkle ;) The edges of your model's hair are a bit frizzy, and could probably be cleaned up with some spot editing, and as Keith said, the skin tones are sometimes a bit close to the background tones. I think the composition here works, and the expression is definitely one to capture!

Portait composition is nice and the fact that she is slightly looking away. I like the tones in you offspring shot and feel that would have worked real nicely here. Interesting face.

Oh your friend is going to love you for posting this :)
my only problem with this is that the skin tone and the background are a little to close to each other on the right side, darkening that side of the background to equal the left would fix it
