This was one of my favorites from the challenge. I love the use of DOF to isolate the runner.

Very powerful. You really capture the emotion by framing his face with the front runners and draw attention with shallow DoF on subject. And the #1 bib shows - nice catch on that. Excellent.

Good DOF highlighting just the subject of the caption

Obviously he's not in the lead according to your title, but it does leave you pondering some things. Where in the race is this? Is it near the end with no time left to catch up and pass? Is he not as close as he appears(has a telephoto lens compressed the scene)?

The b&w conversion is very good. Good use of DOF with just the right placement of focus. Well done!

Nice use of DOF to get the viewer to the subject. I also like the B&W conversion.

I like the choice of focal point - tells the story without the title. Toning works very well for this shot, too.

Great use of emphasis and obviously a very expensive lens with a very small aperture. Love it!

Nice and sharp - I cropped off the top of the image from the bottom of the white sign on the right and i think this helps

Great use of limited DOF on this shot. The focus is right on. The composition is excellent to really make a point. I could totally see this on the front page of a newspaper. The tones seem just a bit off to me. It's like the curve is leaning more toward the right side of the histrogram, and there is not enough present on the left. Still, with that, this is an excellent shot. Definitely a top 10.

I just critiqued a similar image to this one, and this one is way better.

Here you have focused on one athlete do to your shallow dof.

The rule of 6 is observed, and the crop is tight.

comp great, movement great, whites a blown, blacks a bit deep, excellent light, tonal value great, emotional value excellent, over all I predict a ribbon.

a telling photo... was this at (or near) the finish line? If so a capture of #1 behidd the pack from a different vantage point would have conveyed the disappointment...

love the black and white.
