Found on the front of my car. A butterfly wing of some sort. Along with a downy baby bird feather and leaf.

Cloned out dust on the background. Adjusted a bright area on the leaf. The usual USM, median, B&C adjustments. saturation upped a little, selective colour used to add black to colours. Used the lasso tool to select a section of the leaf that was a little too bright, then levels to adjust it.

Critique Club review:

Hi JC,

First, your shot fits the challenge well.

The photo is cropped nicely and the shapes of the leaf, feather and butterfly, I assume Black Swallowtail, wing fit the frame well. The colors appear to be true to what I know about the three subjects. DOF and sharpness are not a problem and are good.

The only problems I see, is the black background only modifies the feather and leaf. The veins of the wing, because they are also dark, are really lost. Not sure if a different color would have helped or arranging the three objects differently. Even though I like the three subjects, the feather, Blue Jay I assume, by itself would have really been nice. The soft blue colors, with the nice down, and the dark background would have made an excellent macro subject. You might try it if you didn't.

As a whole I liked your shot, but I think you probably see some of the negatives and how to improve a great idea. Good luck in the future.

Have a Fantastic 2004,

Van

The elements go well together and are nicely arranged. Perfect lighting and exposure.

The picture meets the challenge and has good clarity but I think there are too many items in the picture that are distracting ....just the leaf by itself would have been an awesome shot ...same with just the wing or the feather .... all put togehter they seem to fight for attention ...it could be just me with ADD ....and dont worry am giving you more than 5 ...
