smoothie against a smooth background. Fairly simple lighting setup. On camera flash, bounced at a white clothe to the left, as well as a gold bounce card behind the flash.

Greetings from the Critique Club!

You received many good comments with which I mostly agree...so I dont' have much to add. You needed to feature the subject...the smoothie. Composition hurt you as you added elements that didn't help the subject. I do like the cut fruit but would have included the other halves. The straws are a not need addition...it may be the truth in the way you drink them but not needed for the story of "smoothie". You bumped up againstg the edge of the frame...gotta give the subject room to breathe. :)

Lighting is great on the glass! A bit much on the background. Velvet is a great light soaker for backgrounds but you need to find the right one... Also pulling the subject away from the background helps but you also need to work that depth of field.

Overall, you're on the right track and you know it. Tighten up the studio process by giving yourself lots of time to consider all the details and tweak, tweak, tweak.

Thanks for the comments, some meaningfull insights there (and compliments are always nice to receive).

The score of 5.2 is about what it deserves I guess. Nothing to be greatly proud of, but at least it pushed the 4-point-somethings from my high-score list. About time to get ridd of the 5-point-somethings as well. I will have to score my first 6-point-something though :P

I like the stiil life! I think that here there are some small problems. first the background is a bit distracting, the line on the lower left side of the image isn't beautiful. second, the orange is too near the border line, you need 0.5 cm of space for a better composition. third, the orange and the kiwi low side are hide. fourth, the reflection on the top of the glass must be avoided. nice the red that go in the upper left corner and the colours. 6

overall very nice, if i was to really nitpick i would have only used one straw and would have chosen a better location and background

you really put forth some effort here, unfortunately you need to do a few things...
1) get the light off and away from the camera
2) use at minimum two lights
3) use manual exposure to expose for the subject
4) use Photoshop levels across the entire image to equalize the blacks

i like the idea of the composition, but the colors are so incongruous. maybe a more specific choice for color palette would help?

Definitely could have made the drink more appealing

I would have preferred it if the black material were silk rather than velvet

I would have preferred to see a wedge of fruit on the glass rather than the straws which take away from the beauty of the shot
