Greetings from the Critique Club.
Composition: The composition here is great. No improvements there. The subject is even looking back into the image.
Technical: The heavy contrast/grunge feel is well suited. The over saturation of the eyes has been your downfall...it looks over done and affects your image negatively.
Overall: I would like to see this in straight BW just like the majority of your image already is. This image did not need to have any form of colour for the story to be told. |

It turned out well Lee.
I like how you have so many contradictary comments.
"like the eyes"
"hate the eyes"
etc.
anyway, it looks good. |

Nicely captured. But the eyes look a bit unnatural with the desaturation. Maybe the colour should have been a bit more subtle. Or maybe he really is a Fremen. |

Why so sad? I like what you've done with the desat. Works well. This kind of photo is challenging in the sense that I can appreciate wanting to capture the emotion, but at the same time it makes me wonder when someone is obviously sad and distressed how can you take time to grab a camera instead of comforting the child? Personally, I wouldn't be able to take this photo. Obviously, JMO. :) Good luck in the challenge.

Very nice capture of an unhappy youngster. The eyes seem an unnatural shade of blue to me, though. |

Nicely captured moment, with great focus, well done. I assume it was intentional but the dirt patches really make it for me. Good luck |

Great capture, love the blue with the greyscale. I also really like the editing you did to the the B/W. It makes for a great image. Nice work. |

Excellent shot! What did you do to make him so sad? You should be ashamed of yourself.
;P
This has great detail, tone values and placement. I think it's difficult to snap a picture of person and have it display such strong interest to a total stranger. This is something I aspire to and you've acomplished with flying colors.
Speaking of colors..... I think the eyes might have worked better for me if they were ever so subtle. The blue is just too deep and un-natural and really takes away from the mood of the shot.
When I see a de-saturation technique used in a photograph, I always ask myself... why was it used and does the end result look better than if the technique hadn't been used at all. I am using this thinking in my voting for this challenge. This would have easily been a 10 in another challenge. For this challenge it is still an impressive 8. It's a great capture. |
