wish this were sharper ... leaf also feels cramped in the frame ... I'd like to see what the surroundings are ...

Aside from fitting the photo in the challenge, I don't really see the point of desat here. It's a lovely leaf, to be sure, but I would think it would stand out just as well even without desaturating the background.

Desat is too subtle, in my opinion - doesn't alter ones perception of the photo.
