Macro photograph of a little pipette holding index matching oil. Notice the motion blur from the drop leaving the tip of the pipette :)

I took this photo in an actual laser optics lab with a blue-green piece of paper behind the pipette, incandescent lighting from above and an extra spot light from the left to create the "sparkles".

Shot in RAW, opened in Photoshop. Added some vignetting and shifted the colors rotated and cropped in the conversion process, cropped, dodged and burned a bit to enhance the contrast in the pipette and cleaned up the color of the background and cloned out some small dust and sparks on the pipette.

Continued working, coloring oil blue and enhancing red refraction at waist. Used lens blur filter to blur top part of pipette since it was a bit dirty. Flipped image horizontally. Did some shadow + highlight on the base layer to enhance contrast.

Flatten, resize, unsharp mask, jpg save.

I really like the catchlights in the water. This would be so much better against a plain black or white bg.

more focus on the droplet would have improved this shot i think, also the background at the bottom is a little distracting. However it's a nice composition and i like the shot

OK shot, but subject doesn't hold my interest and don't care for the star reflections in the pipette. 5

I like the idea, but it got lost in the execution for me. I don't like the green and blue colors together, and I would like to see the whole dropper thing in nice sharp focus. I do like the aperture choice to create little stars out of the points of light.

I find the border a bit big
