 My first dpchallenge submission. Rooting around in my garage for ideas, I found a box of LED's. My first thought was to find a lime, something copper, and a zinc-coated nail to generate some electricity. Then I found an old solar cell I had from some long-lost project. Didn't take long to come up with the idea of using the flash to generate the electricity to light the LED. I tried to compose something as simple and direct as possible.

I used an aluminum foil snood to focus the flash on the solar cell. I needed a full 1/1 manual flash to get much light out of the LED -- which made the exposure tricky. I had to manually adjust the exposure exposure to keep things dark enough to see the red light in the LED, but bright enough to see all the elements.

Photoshop retouches: smart sharpening, some dodging & burning, and an exposure filter layer to enhance the red light in the LED.

A solar panel hooked up to an LED? Clever, but not very photogenic, and I'll bet many people don't get it. A pity you couldn't do something more with it because the general idea is very imaginative. 7

This is a great idea! It took me a moment or two to get it, which I thought was a nice experience as a viewer - it added an intellectual dimension to viewing the picture. You might want to try the combination of putting a snoot on the flash and having a GoBo somewhere to control the spill and keep the bulb in deeper darkness. This would really let you idea shine brighter (hehe, what a pun!!)
