Challenge: Tacky Holiday Decorations (Classic Editing) Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel Lens: Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Location: My Back Yard Date: Dec 30, 2003 Aperture: F 5.6 ISO: 100 Shutter: 1 sec Galleries: Abstract, Vintage Date Uploaded: Dec 30, 2003

I actually don't find this tacky at all, I just really liked it. I saw this scene out my back window for the entire Christmas season. I just kept waiting for the neighbours to properly adjust the curtains in order for me to take my shot.
I shot this several times, using many different settings, until I finally settled on a RAW version at F 5.6, 100 iso, 1 sec. This was actually under exposed by about 2 stops, but it was the only way to not get blown out lights in the star. The only correction done from the RAW was a slight WB adjustment using C1Rebel.
In PS: Levels, saturation, curves, USM, slight Gaussian Blur (reduced to 20% in normal mode), resize and border. |

The star and reflections make a nice composition, but I think the overall picture would have been stornger with less of the unlighted portion of the window at the bottom. |

nice shot, I'm not sure I would cosider it to be tacky, but what one person considers tacky may differ from another persons point of view. I like the black around the window, it really makes the star stand out. 8 |

I like this shot - not extremely tacky (except the star is upside down??) |

It's tacky because the star is upside down, right? It is a rather gaudy star. Picture well done, and I really like how you framed it. |

Very nicely framed and exposed. The light is very well captured without flaring - well done. |
