Well, I know the Eider duck does not sing, it quacks! I just had to use this image because I like it. It shows a male Eider doing a mating ritual. Although you can't see it in the image the shot was made during horrible weather condidtions, rain and strong wind. I guess birds are not very likely to score high at DPC but I think it's a very good photo of a male Eider. :)

The image didn't need much processing. I cropped it for portrait orientation (thank god for 5D resolution) used a little sharpening to make it more crisp and tweaked the neautrals/blues for making the blue of the ocean stronger.

Yes it's an Eider.

I've been doing an experiment by submitting bird images to challenges. Well I know this image is a pretty good bird image yet it scores badly. I have another bird image now and it's scoring even worse. Lesson learned: Only submit birds to wildlife challenges. Guess I will for the next few weeks go back to formulaic DPC images (landscape or simple studio).

I love the leading line in the shimmer of the water leading right to the duck. BTW, I don't think ducks sing, do they?

Hmm. Just does not make me say why? Or see why! Nice photo.

I am not a good photographer, I do not claim to be better than anyone, any criticism is meant to be constructive criticism......
