CRITIQUE CLUB CRITIQUE
by karmat
Compositionally, I think the subject is too centered. While that can work in some shots, in this one, it feels (as I said earlier) haphazard. This feeling is reinforced by the very top of her head being chopped out of the shot. I would suggest somehow composing it so that you can have more space on the right side of the shot, and *maybe* cropping tighter on the left. I hesitate to do that, though, because it could look awkward as well.
Technically, the blue of the shirt is one of the factors that is very appealing in this shot, so I hesitate to suggest a bw conversion. however, as someone pointed out, the blue cooler in the background is so similar to her shirt that it draws the eye away from the subject. Since this was advanced editing, you could desaturate the cooler just enough to not "compete." You wouldn't have to take all of the color out, just some of it.
Overall, it is a technically well-done shot, and does meet the definition of candid, so it meets the challenge. I suspect that since it is a rather commonplace happening, many people were able to relate to it, but it didn't connect "emotionally" for them, and thus didn't have that "WOW" factor that pushes shots over the top. You didn't have any ones or twos and only 3 threes, and an overall average of 5.6, so that isn't too bad.
good work and best to you in future challenges.

The colors of her shirt are a little bright... Especially against the rest of the background. |

Is that your pulse she's taking? :) I like the bright colors, but it seems a bit haphazard or snapshotish in composition (which, I guess is part of the definition of candid, huh?) |

I like the angle on this. In my heart I am sure that she must have known you were taking this picture but yet theres something about it that makes me think you may have just whipped out your camera and caught her unawares
Strange image as when I first saw it I really did not like it and scored it 4 but on revisiting it it has just grown and grown on me....Bump to 6, nice shot |

that's an interesting candid - from a cell phone perhaps - how did you get her not to know you were taking it? good effort |

What a clever way to get a shot - and do good things for the community at the same time. This would be excellent for a flyer. Very nicely done. |

Would have loved ti see her eyes - caught looking up. Gives an intimate view of her life at work though. |
